After a draw with no goals at Anfield Road, Liverpool got eliminated on their first tournament against Arsenal from the penalty spot.

We all expected Liverpool to fight for all the titles this season but they got kicked out of their first tournament this evening. This is what the Carabao Cup can bring you. A competition that can put two of the biggest clubs against each-other. We just saw Chelsea get eliminated by Tottenham two days ago in another penalty shootout.

Today’s match was another wild card to predict between Liverpool and Arsenal at Anfield Road. None of both managers picked their best starting eleven. However, they did line up some pretty interesting names. It was a hardcore affair in which no side gave an inch of space. So close that we ended with a goalless draw after 90 minutes. As we all know, this stage in the Carabao Cup goes straight to penalties after a full regular match.

A close call for Arsenal.

When in the shootout, no side wanted to make a mistake as both started strong. The Gunners seemed to lag behind after Elneny got his shot saved by Adrian, but Origi got his saved by Leno. The youngster Wilson missed the most important penalty for Liverpool and Wilcock scored the winner for the Gunners.

This is how Arsenal qualifies for the Carabao Cup’s next round. Liverpool played a good match but they couldn’t do anything in the shootout, which is always a bust. The Reds will at least have one less fixture to worry about on their calendar and focus on the other three competitions at hand. Arteta’s Gunners are still flying high with their new manager.
