In a newly found partnership, we got a wonderful masterclass from Gio Reyna and Erling Haaland against Freiburg this evening.
Both Erling Haaland and Giovanni Reyna can make Dortmund the only title contender against Bayern Munich this season. Jadon Sancho’s absence proved that the English forward leaving wouldn’t hurt the German squad that much. Saturday’s match against Freiburg was the day in which Gio Reyne became one of the most important assist providers at Dortmund.
It also became the day in which the world realized the chemistry he has with another young talent such as Erling Haaland. The Norway wonderboy opened the scoreboard with a clinical assist between the lines from Reyna. It’s hard to believe a 17-year-old can play this level of football, but Gio does it like a veteran. His pace, creativity, and vision are not normal for a kid his age. After the break, he found Emre Can during a corner-kick for Dortmund’s second goal.
Haaland takes control of the second half.
Although Reyne still had some moments left in his performance, Haaland was the one who took control of the second half. The two teenagers connected again with 30 minutes left on the clock for Dortmund’s third goal of the evening. It was a beautiful counter-attack that the ‘Killer’ finished with a missile right in front of Freiburg’s goalie.
By the end of the match, another counter gave Haaland the chance to score a hat-trick. He was right in front of the keeper again, but he decided to share the glory with Felix Passlack. This proves that this kid’s talent goes beyond only scoring goals like a seasoned striker.
After three Bundesliga games, Dortmund moves to second place below Eintracht Frankfurt with 6 points. Now that we know Sancho will remain at the club, we can expect to have a fun season with these players.
