It’s been a long time coming, but the Blues’ highly-rated summer signing has finally returned training and is ready to make his mark.

Xavier Mbuyamba has resumed training with Chelsea, almost five months after completing a free transfer from Barcelona last summer.

The 19-year-old defender had the terrible misfortune of beginning his Blues career with a knee injury. He then tore his meniscus in only his second training session, which had ruled him out for a further four months.

But Mbuyamba, who has been compared to Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk due to his tall frame (6″5) and strong aerial ability, has resumed training. The Dutchman updated fans on Instagram with a short clip on his recovery and return to group training.

“A few months later than I thought when I signed last summer but here I am, back with the team,” Mbuyamba wrote.

“I can finally do what I came for. With more hunger to succeed than ever before…It starts now!
