The defender dropped to the ground in the final few minutes of his side’s big win at Amsterdam ArenA.

Virgil van DIjk has played down any injury concern after a strong tackle in Netherlands’ 6-1 win over Turkey on Tuesday.

Van Dijk was on the receiving end of a strong, high challenge by Halil Dervisoglu as he attempted to receive an under-hit pass from goalkeeper Justin Bijlow in the build-up to Turkey’s consolation goal.

The center-back went down holding his ankle for a brief spell and was visibly in pain, giving rise to fears that he could be set for yet another spell on the sidelines.

An anterior cruciate ligament injury had forced the 30-year-old to miss the majority of the 2020-21 season for Liverpool as well as this summer’s Euro 2020, and he had only recently recovered from it.

However, speaking after the match, he downplayed a suspected ankle by insisting he was “already over it.”

“Iโ€™m fine, luckily. Iโ€™m already over it,” Van Dijk said, as Goal reports.

“Maybe because I am so big, they think I am acting, because when I go down, it goes in quite a slow way.”
