While playing for the Netherlands, Memphis Depay reached a historic all-time record held by one of the nation’s biggest legends.

It’s safe to say Memphis Depay is truly enjoying himself as a professional footballer after his performance for the Netherlands tonight. As probably one of the best transfers in the last window made by FC Barcelona, Memphis is feeling comfortable in his own skin. He started the club season with two goals and one assist in the first three matches of the season. But his level of performance with his country is the one that left everybody with their jaws on the floor. Especially tonight against Turkey.

Memphis already played a decent game against Norway but he failed to score a goal during that match. Today was different against the always dangerous Turkish side. From the first moments of the game, we could see he was eager to make an impact for his teammates. He delivered a brilliant assist for Klassen and the Dutch midfielder returned the favor soon after that. Memphis was already one goal deep into his personal count this evening.

Memphis joins a prestigious list in 2021.

Minutes before half-time, there was a penalty awarded for the Dutch that Memphis had the responsibility to take. He decided to try a Panenka-styled shot that granted him a brace before the break. But Memphis wasn’t happy with the two goals and he scored his third only 9 minutes into the second half. This is the first hat-trick in Memphis Depay’s international career with the Netherlands.

Also, the Dutch forward reached Johan Cruyff’s 33 goals for his country. An impressive feat for such a young player. With these three goals and the assist, Depay also ranked fourth behind Lewandowski (49), Messi (47), and Haaland (44) with 42 goal contributions in 2021. The FC Barcelona star is arguably one of the best players in the world during the present year and he arrived at FC Barcelona for free. Well done Joan Laporta, well done.
