A compatriot of Donny van de Beek believes a switch to Manchester United would prove to be a huge step in the player’s career.
Ajax’s Donny van de Beek was missing from the team sheet for their preseason friendly against Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday.
Head coach Erik ten Hag later revealed that the midfielder’s absence indicated that he could be heading toward’s the club’s exit door.
Van de Been was a driving force behind Ajax’s run up to the semi-finals of the 2018/29 Champions League and he has since been on the radar of several European elites.
It now appears that he is finally ready to follow in the footsteps of Frenkie de Jong, Matthijs de Ligt, Hakim Ziyech, some of the standout performers of that season, and move to a top European league.
A few reliable journalists recently reported that the 23-year old is set to become Manchester United’s first signing of the summer. He has agreed to personal terms with Man United and the transfer, said to be worth around €45 million (£40m), will be made official in the coming days.
Virgil van Dijk is well aware of his national teammate’s talents and has given his seal of approval for the move.
“[The Van de Beek transfer] looks like it’s going to happen indeed,” Van Dijk told reporters, as per Evening Standard.
“From my heart, I wish him the best. It’s wonderful for him, it’s a nice step for him to move to a great club as a Dutch player.”

“Also the same for Nathan Ake, who moves to Manchester City,” he added. “I’m glad for both of them.”
