Starved of game time by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the Dutchman has been tipped to depart Old Trafford in this transfer window.
Donny van de Beek’s agent has provided assurances over his client’s future at Manchester United saying “clarity has been provided about his role” in the team.
Van de Beek’s signing served as a source of surprise as much as it did of delight for the Manchester United fans, considering the transfer was announced out of nowhere last summer.
He was expected to nail down a place in the Red Devils line-up and become a crucial part of the midfield trio alongside Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes.
However, the Netherlands international has been unable to live up to the expectations so far, by and large because of the limited playing time afforded to him.
The 24-year-old made 36 appearances, of which only 11 were starts, in total last term – but it seems he will get a good run of games this season.
“Everyone within the club knows that Donny cannot have another season like last year,” Van de Beek’s agent told De Telegraaf.
“In preparation, clarity has been provided about his role. The fans had already embraced him before, but the most important thing is that the trainer has now provided clarity in the English press.
“We are happy with that. And I assume that Donny will play a lot in one of the positions in midfield in the coming period.”
