Donny van de Beek believes there is a ‘really big opportunity’ for him at Manchester United to help create ‘a really nice future’.

Van de Beek recently completed a €39m transfer from Ajax and made his first appearance for Manchester United in a pre-season friendly against Aston Villa last weekend, which ended in a 1-0 defeat.

The 23-year-old became one of Europe’s most sought after talents upon starring in Ajax’s charge to the Champions League semi-finals in 2018/19. He impressed against last season and is now ready to try his luck in the Premier League.

Van de Beek may be United’s only signing of the summer transfer window, but he’s optimistic of a bright future with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s young squad.

“I cannot wait to play many games with them,” the Dutch midfielder told Inside United.

“There are a lot of young players in the group, around my age, and I think this is a really big opportunity for me to help the team.

“It’s always good to play with these kinds of players, you can learn from everybody. Everybody has their own qualities and you have to pick things up from them.

“I’m really happy I can play with them. That is what I want and I hope together we can make a really nice future for the club.”

The Red Devils have been blessed with some extraordinary talent from the Netherlands over the years in Edwin van der Sar, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Jaap Stam, Robin van Persie, and countless others.

“I watched United a lot [when I was younger],” revealed Van de Beek.

“Because a lot of Dutch players have played here and this was nice to watch if you’re a young kid and you see the Dutch players there.

“Daley [Blind], Edwin, Robin van Persie… you see them. They won a lot of titles and United always played nice football, which was always good to see.”

Van de Beek could make his Premier League debut in United’s season opener against Crystal Palace on Saturday, with kick-off set for 18:30 (CET).
