Official: Man United confirm signing of Donny van de Beek

Manchester United have signed Netherlands midfielder Donny van de Beek from Ajax on a five-year contract.

Donny Van de Beek has joined Manchester United on a long-term deal, the club confirmed.

Talks over a potential transfer held swiftly with Ajax over the weekend.

Van de Beek becomes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first signing of the summer transfer window.

His signing cost United an initial €39m plus an extra €5m that could arise from add-ons,

The midfielder’s father described the move to United as a dream come true for his son.

Van de Beek has echoed his father’s recent comments with his first words after joining the Red Devils.

“I cannot begin to explain how incredible an opportunity it is to join a club with such an amazing history,” he said to the club’s official website.

“I am now ready to take the next step in my career and perform at the highest level and there is no higher standard than Manchester United.

“This team has some of the best midfielders in the world and I know that I can learn from them and also bring my own strengths to the group.

“Having spoken to the manager about his vision for this team, the direction that the club is going in is hugely exciting and I cannot wait to be a part of that.”

Boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was also pleased to welcome a technically gifted Van de Beek to the United setup.

“Donny has all of the technical attributes needed to perform in this team and has the personality required to succeed at Manchester United.

“His ability to see space, time his movements and read the game will really complement the qualities that we have in midfield and his arrival really strengthens the depth of talent we have in that position.”

Van de Beek played 175 first-team games for Ajax, scoring 41 goals in that time.
