The USMNT will have to lock horns with another one of the World Cup favourites in the next round.
Tyler Adams believes the USA have to execute a pre-planned strategy to beat Netherlands in the last-16 round of the World Cup.
The USMNT secured a place in the knock-out stage by beating Iran 1-0 on Wednesday. A first-half goal by Christian Pulisic was enough for the USA to win the politically-charged game.
Gregg Berhalter’s side will now prepare to face Netherlands in the next round.
Speaking to ESPN about the game, Adams said: “[It’s a] huge opportunity for us.
“It’s going to be an amazing game. I think we’ve obviously played good competition here.
“Like England, the Netherlands could be another favourite to win the World Cup. They’ve done really well, how they navigated through their group phase of the tournament so far.
“[The Netherlands] have some amazing players. We’re going to have to be ready for that game, but I think right now we enjoy this moment, have some downtime to relax and recover now, [and then] mentally focus.
“The coaches will come up with a game plan. It’s time for us to execute.”
USA will face Netherlands on Saturday in the World Cup’s first match of the last-16 round.
