Mikel Arteta is facing criticism after a poor run of results at Arsenal but an unlikely name from the Spurs camp has backed the Spanish manager.

Eric Dier has jumped in defence of Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta despite a poor run of results over the Gunner’s past few games.

The Gunners have only one win in their last five Premier League games and have lost five out of their last eight. At this stage of the season, Arsenal find themselves languishing in 14th place.

After back-to-back wins to start the campaign, Mikel Arteta is beginning to face criticism for a lack of positive results at the club.

Their latest loss to Wolves saw the Gunners lose their third game at the Emirates this term. Wolves also claimed their first win at Arsenal since 1979.

Last season, Unai Emery got the sack while the Gunners were in eighth position after 13 games.

Under Arteta, Arsenal now have their worst start to a League season in close to 40 years.

It could be worse for the Emirates outfit as they take on fellow North London rivals Tottenham on Sunday. Mourinho’s men have only lost one game in the Premier League all season and are favorites to record another win at the weekend.

Despite all the criticism at the Arsenal boss, a surprise name in Eric Dier was full of praise for the 38-year-old Spaniard ahead of their derby.

“They are going through a difficult period but these games it doesn’t really matter who is where in the table,” the Spurs star said as quoted by Sky Sports.

“We know how much of a difficult game it is going to be. The position in the table is irrelevant. It’s early on in the season for both teams.

“They have a lot of quality in their team. They have a very exciting young manager (Arteta). The most exciting young manager in Europe for sure. I like his way, the way it seems to be. I think they are in good hands.”

“We know they have a lot of quality in their squad and we will be very aware of that on Sunday.”

Another loss for the Gunners especially against Tottenham could pretty much leave Arteta in a delicate situation at the club.
