During an interview with Football.London, Unai Emery went through his time at Arsenal and revealed the youngster who surprises him the most.

There are many Arsenal youngsters who are very talented, but one stands above the rest for Unai Emery. The Villarreal current boss has a past with the Gunners that left some impact on the players who are performing today. He saw many youngsters within the academy who had their first chance to play under his command. That’s the legacy he left for Mikel Arteta to enjoy after he was sacked.

But out of all the great young players this club has, Bukayo Saka is the one who mesmerized Emery the most during his time at Arsenal. There’s a certain level of talent that managers can spot from a very early age. Saka is the perfect representation of this sixth sense that Emery used when he first laid eyes on the youngster.

Emery recalls when he first saw Saka play.

During an interview with Football.London, this is what Unai Emery recalls about Saka: “I remember when Bukayo played the first match with us in January. We won against Fulham 4-1 at the Emirates, he played for the first time with us at 17 years-old for 10 minutes. He didn’t touch one ball in ten minutes! He ran, ran, ran but didn’t kick one ball – it was amazing.”

“When he started playing regularly you could look at him and see he’s a very good player. He’s progressing as a very important player and he is a very humble person. It’s very important because some other players don’t have the same humble qualities as him to always want to learn, listen and follow us.”
