Bad news for Real Madrid ahead of the Champions League match against Liverpool, two key midfielders picked up injuries today.
Zinedine Zidane’s biggest headache was the international break for Real Madrid as two key midfielders picked up injuries today. First, Toni Kroos was forced to return to Spain with muscular issues that threaten to keep him out of the game for at least a week or two. During today’s practice with the German National Team, he had to leave the training ground and decided to leave the team altogether.
The German Football Federation issued the following statement from manager Joachim Low: “Our medical department has examined and treated Toni intensively. He would have liked to stay with us, and I am reluctant to do without him. With a view to the European Championship tournament in the summer, we have decided that a full recovery from this injury now has priority must.”
Valverde also picks up a muscular injury.
Later in the day, Fede Valverde also picked up a recurring problem he had since the match against Celta in Balaidos. Initially, Zidane believed the young midfielder was recovered but he didn’t even show up for practice today. Real Madrid doctors confirmed he won’t play against Eibar on the return from the international break. Also, they aren’t confident he will be 100% recovered for the first-leg against Liverpool.
If he doesn’t make it against the English squad, he will join Kroos as two major absentee players for this crucial game. Zidane’s bad luck with injuries this season continues. Certainly, Kroos has been more important than Valverde this season and his latest setback could seriously jeopardize Real Madrid’s chances to win the title.
