Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez will be Chelsea’s main target in the January transfer window.
The Blues previously failed to sign the 24-year-old Mexican in the summer for around £40 million. They also tried to sign Southampton’s Romeo Lavia and PSV Eindhoven’s Ibrahima Sangare before bringing in Denis Zakaria on loan from Juventus. [Evening Standard]
Costa set to arrive in the UK
Former Chelsea striker Diego Costa will arrive in the UK on Tuesday night to complete a free transfer to Wolves.
The 33-year-old is a free agent after leaving Brazilian club Atletico Mineiro in January. He will have a medical on Wednesday while waiting for a work permit, and then put pen to paper on a 12-month deal at Molineux. [Telegraph – subscription required]
