Tuchel responds to Lukaku’s controversial Chelsea remarks

The Blues striker has recently hit out at the club’s current system and revealed he already has one eye on a return to Inter Milan.

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel admits he didn’t like what Romelu Lukaku said in his recent interview, as it brings ‘noise’ to the club.

In an interview with Sky Sport Italia, Lukaku revealed he isn’t happy about his situation at Stamford Bridge. The striker feels Tuchel’s system isn’t suited for him. He did state, though, that he would keep working hard to win favor under the head coach.

The interview, which aired on Thursday, reportedly took place around three weeks ago.

What did Lukaku say?

“Physically, I am fine. But I’m not happy with the situation at Chelsea,” said the 28-year-old.

“Tuchel has chosen to play with another system – I won’t give up, I’ll be professional. I am not happy with the situation but I am professional – and I can’t give up now”.

Lukaku also expressed a desire to return to former club Inter Milan while he is still at a competitive level, not when he is near the end of his career.

What did Tuchel think about this?

Speaking in a pre-match press conference on Friday ahead of the club’s match against Liverpool this weekend, Tuchel refused to read too much into other media outlets interpreting Lukaku’s comments as proof he is unhappy.

“We don’t like it of course because it brings noise we don’t need and it is not helpful. We don’t want to make more out of it than it actually is,” said the German.

“It’s very easy to take lines out of context, it’s very easy to shorten lines, make headlines then later realize it’s not so bad and not what he meant.

“Let’s be honest, we don’t like it, I don’t like it because it’s noise we don’t need. We need a calm environment and focus and that does not help.”
