Thomas Tuchel continues to enjoy a bright start to life at Chelsea and has now seen his name enter the Premier League record books.

Thomas Tuchel continues to earn plaudits for his start to life at Chelsea. The 2-0 win over Everton on Monday saw him etch his name into the record books.

The Blues are unbeaten in 11 games under the German. More specifically, the shutout of the Toffees saw him become the first manager in Premier League history to see his side keep a clean sheet in each of his first five home games in charge in the division.

While the Blues have not been at their prolific best upfront, it is their defensive resilience that has been the standout under Tuchel.

Blues goalkeeper Edouard Mendy only faced one shot on target all night against Everton.

Chelsea have only conceded twice under Tuchel since he took charge and German took charge. The German says it is down to a collective effort and mindset.

Speaking to the club’s website after the game, he said: “It is about desire.”

“Defending is about effort. Sometimes it is necessary to defend midfield. It is about reliability, trust, courage, bravery.”

“They guys around you must help you, principles, reliable, having your backs covered.”

“We defended with a big effort and a big intensity. Defending is a team effort and is about helping each other.”

“We did that and we deserved our clean sheet so it’s very pleasing. Of course, I’m happy for the goalkeeper and the defenders when we keep a clean sheet, but also for the whole team because every guy puts defensive effort in.”

Kai Havertz was a bright spark in the game and Tuchel also heaped praise on his compatriot.

“I was very pleased with Kai.”

“We showed a lot of trust in him and he used his opportunity tonight very well. He fulfilled his role, was very fluid and put in an excellent performance.”

“He is a guy that has all the qualities and all the talents to be a dominant figure in the offence.”

“He stepped up and was involved in a lot of dangerous attacking situations for us. I’m very happy with him and that he could show a performance like he did tonight, which I think highlights what he can bring to this team.”
