During a fan Q&A session, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel was quizzed on which Blues legend in his prime he would sign for the squad.

Petr Cech would be Thomas Tuchel’s choice if the German was to sign one Chelsea legend in his prime.

The former goalkeeper had a glorious 11-year spell at Stamford Bridge between 2004 and 2015. He made 494 appearances and kept 228 clean sheets. It helped the club win 15 trophies in his time, including four Premier League titles, the Champions League, and Europa League.

Since hanging up his gloves in 2019, Cech has served as a technical and performance advisor at Chelsea. He also registered as a backup keeper for the club’s Premier League squad last season.

“I work every day with Petr Cech and he’s great to have around, so I’ll choose Petr with all of his experience,” said Tuchel in the fan Q&A on which Blues legend he would add to his squad.

“He works here as a Technical Advisor but he also helps out sometimes with our goalkeepers and I think it would have been fun to have coached him as a player.”

Tuchel also mentioned Didier Drogba as another Chelsea icon he would’ve loved to coach.

The former striker supplied 164 goals and 87 assists in 381 appearances across two separate spells for Chelsea between 2004 and 2015.

Tuchel added: “I watched a documentary about him [Cech] and Didier Drogba recently and both of them had such fantastic winning mentalities when they were playing, so focused and dedicated and for sure, they would be an asset to any team.”
