In a shocking piece of news for the day, one of Chelsea’s biggest legends has been confirmed to return to the Blues from retirement.

Chelsea keeps surprising us with their transfer decisions as they just accepted back one of their biggest legends. Petr Cech had been the goalkeeper coach since he returned to the Blues in a technical staff capacity. However, the current global pandemic and Kepa’s poor level of performance is pushing Chelsea to make this decision. As it turns out, the Czech goalie has been included in the club’s Premier League squad in case there’s an emergency.

Judging on how delicate the Covid-19 situation is getting in England. This is a surprising but smart move from Frank Lampard and Cech himself. Ahead of a new Premier League season that already started, the Blues announced the former goalkeeper’s inclusion on the 25-men list for the domestic competition. They justified his addition due to the global pandemic and confirmed he will be part of the squad without a contract.

Cech will remain as a goalkeeper coach.

Despite being included in the Premier League list, the Blues also confirmed that Petr Cech will still remain as the goalkeepers’ coach. However, they are fully expecting to use him in a long season as the scientific community comes up with a Covid-19 vaccine.

Petr retired as an Arsenal player in 2019 but he returned to Chelsea’s coaching staff alongside Frank Lampard. He is widely considered to be one of the best goalkeepers in Premier League history, he won 15 titles with the Blues and kept 228 clean sheets. And in case you were wondering, Petr Cech is in fact younger than Gianluigi Buffon.

The Blues announced their decision on their official website: “Petr Cech has been included in the squad as emergency goalkeeper cover. This is a precautionary step due to the unprecedented conditions currently caused by the Covid-19 crisis. He takes up a position as a non-contract player.”
