Yaya Toure feels Pep Guardiola hasn’t delivered for Manchester City following another failed European campaign and suggests it could be ‘time to change’.

Guardiola took charge of Manchester City in the summer of 2016 following two glory-laden spells with Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

The Catalan coach had one clear objective on his mind in ending City’s long wait for Champions League success, while continuing to establish them as a force to be reckoned with in English football.

He certainly has achieved the latter aim, having won eight pieces of domestic silverware. These include back-to-back Premier League titles and three EFL Cups.

On the Champions League front, however, Guardiola hasn’t delivered. While the City boss has reached the quarter-finals for the last three seasons, he’s never progressed any further.

Last weekend’s shock defeat to Lyon left Pep on the receiving end of much backlash, with some City fans even urging the club to fire him.

And now Toure, who didn’t always see eye-to-eye with Guardiola in their time together at City and Barcelona, suggests a change in personnel could be necessary at the Etihad Stadium.

“The manager has been signed for that, just to bring this trophy,” Toure told Football Daily.

“And when you see Liverpool maybe and other clubs who [have won it] without doing a lot of work in the transfer market, it’s quite strange and disappointing.

“Of course, he’s been brought to the club to get a massive trophy for them and at the moment it’s not been delivered in the way they want.

“Everyone knows Pep is a great manager but at the moment when things are not going their way, sometimes it’s the time to change the way they do things. We’ll see.”
