The Tottenham manager believes his side deserved to take a first-half lead in their derby clash against Chelsea.

Chelsea defeated Tottenham 2-0 in their Premier League game on Sunday. The Blues dominated the game during the first half. However, a first-half effort from Harry Kane came close to changing the course of the game.

Following a precise cutback from Ryan Sessegnon, Kane slotted the ball home to make it 1-0 for Tottenham in the 40th minute. However, referee Paul Tierney disallowed the goal for Kane’s foul on Thiago Silva just before the pass. The Spurs were waiting for a check on the pitch-side monitor, but the referee resumed the game without reviwing the incident.

In a post-match interview, Tottenham boss Antonio Conte reacted to the decision.

“To disallow this goal in England, it was incredible,” the Italian manager said (via Mirror).

“Maybe in Italy it’s 50-50, but in England, incredible.”

Asked about his side’s performance, Conte admitted his side are well behind the level of Chelsea.

He said: “To be an important team, you need important players. At the moment we are far away. It takes time. Years.

“For the performance, I’m very proud of my players. But then if I think that in the space of 19 days we lost to Chelsea, you have to accept there is a big difference between us and them.

“We tried everything to get a good result here but sometimes that’s not enough, especially when you play against this sort of team. This club is on another level compared to us.”

In recent weeks, Conte has repeatedly insisted his side needs squad reinforcements. However, the Tottenham chiefs are yet to sign a new player under the Italian coach.
