The Spurs have allowed Sergio Reguilon to return to the Spanish capital.
Tottenham full-back Sergio Reguilon has joined Atletico Madrid on a loan deal until next summer.
The Rojiblancos have signed Reguilon as a replacement for Renan Lodi, who joined Nottingham Forest earlier this week.
Reguilon found a brilliant start to his Tottenham career after joining the club from Real Madrid in 2020.
However, he struggled to find consistency with his performance, slipping down the pecking order at the north London side.
Having made 67 appearances for the Spurs, Reguilon will now make a fresh start in La Liga.
The move has sparked a negative reaction from Atletico fans due to Reguilon’s history with Real Madrid.
However, Diego Simeone has made it clear he has no problems with signing former Blancos players for his team.
“Juanfran had previously played for Real Madrid, as had Filipe Luis – both are now part of the history of this club,” Simeone said.
“Even today, Alvaro [Morata] is doing well; Mario [Hermoso] gave a lot to the title-winning squad two seasons ago.
“[Marcos] Llorente was off the charts when we won the title. I look at all these as football players.”
Reguilon can make his second La Liga debut when Atletico meet Real Sociedad on Saturday.
