Tottenham are dealing with a widespread outbreak of COVID-19 at their club.
On Wednesday, Tottenham manager Antonio Conte confirmed eight Tottenham players and five staff members tested positive for COVID-19.
Tottenham called off their Thursday’s game against Rennes in the Europa Conference League, while also closing their first-team training centre,
Following an official request from the north London side, the Premier League decided to postpone Spurs’ upcoming match against Brighton.
An official statement reads: “The Premier League Board has taken the decision to postpone the game following guidance from medical advisers, with the health of players and staff the priority.”
Tottenham’s next match will be against Leicester City on December 16, before a home match against Liverpool three days later. The COVID-19 outbreak will delay Conte’s plans to revive Tottenham’s form while sidelining several of his players.
The spread of the new omicron variant of COVID-19 has generated doubts around the possibility of imposing more restrictions on the football clubs. If similar outbreaks happen in other teams, we will probably see more restrictions in the near future. Following a new surge in the COVID-19 cases, the government in Germany has already sanctioned new laws to decrease attendance at the Stadiums.
