Ahead of Tottenham’s Europa Conference League game against Rennes, Antonio Conte revealed a serious Covid-19 outbreak.

Antonio Conte has confirmed that eight players along with other members of Tottenham have tested positive for Covid-19.

While speaking ahead of Spurs’ Europa Conference League meeting against Rennes on Thursday, the Italian boss told the reporters of the outbreak.

Conte said: “Eight players and five members of staff but the problem is that every day we’re having people with Covid, people that yesterday weren’t positive and today are and we’re continuing to have contact with. It’s a serious problem.”

Under UEFA rules, if Tottenham still have a minimum of 13 players who can play, the game will still be conducted.

However, Conte is of the opinion that it would be an unnecessary risk if the match is still played.

“Everyone is a bit scared. People have families. Why do we have to take the risk? This is my question. Today, two positives. And tomorrow, who? Me? I don’t know. Better me than a player for sure. But I think it’s not right for everyone. We have contact with our families.”

What happens to Tottenham’s Premier League schedule?

All the players who have contracted the virus will have to stay in isolation for the next 10 days. Meaning, they will be unavailable for the next domestic game as Spurs travel to Brighton on Sunday.

But, reports suggest that the club will request the Premier League to postpone the fixture if possible. Apparently, the protocols for Covid-19 are not as strict in the league as they are with UEFA.

Conte and his men will also visit Leicester City on December 16, however, the situation of that particular encounter is not yet clear.
