The first of two Carabao Cup semifinals take place today at Tottenham’s London Stadium against Brentford. We have player ratings.
Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur had a chance to reach the Carabao Cup final if they defeated Brentford in the semifinal. On paper, the game was supposed to be an easy task for the Spurs. But any club that reaches this stage in the competition is worthy of respect and The Bees were no different. Jose Mourinho’s players had to forget about scoring many goals due to their opponent’s resilience.
Despite their many efforts, they were only able to score one goal in each half. The first one came from Moussa Sissoko’s impressive header after a Sergio Reguilon cross from the left. This was more than enough for Tottenham to feel comfortable and control the rest of the game with only small moments of danger.
Son seals the ticket to the final.
With more than half of the last 45 minutes gone, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg managed to find a decent opening for Son Heung-min. It happened as soon as they recovered a ball in midfield, the Danish midfielder delivered a classy assist for the South Korean forward. Son released a potent finish that gave Tottenham the ticket to the Carabao Cup final.
Spurs are set to face either Manchester United or Manchester City in the final. The Derby is set to be played on Wednesday at Old Trafford. Mourinho has done it again, he reached another final with one of his clubs and might even win some silverware for Spurs in his second season at the club.
