It’s time to take a look at the Top 5 transfers that completely fell apart during the summer deadline day in European football.

Summer transfers on deadline day can fall apart in the blink of an eye, we have the most interesting Top 5 for you. Due to the global pandemic, we experienced the most unique transfer window in modern football history. The powers that be decided that October 5 was the final day to make new deals for every single club in Europe.

This left us with several interesting deals but also many unthinkable flops. The two major losers in this transfer window are Manchester United and FC Barcelona, there’s no question about it. Let’s take a look at the transfers that didn’t come through by the end of the day.

5.- Houssem Aouar to Arsenal.

A player who was coveted by Real Madrid’s Zinedine Zidane and Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta. Aouar wasn’t able to complete a transfer to the Gunners due to president Aulas’ stubbornness. The Lyon midfielder will have to wait for one more season as the Gunners might’ve missed their train for good.

By next year, Los Blancos will come after his signature stronger than any other club. Arsenal simply can’t compete against Real Madrid for any player, this was the window and they blew it.

4.- Jack Grealish to Manchester United.

The English international is fresh out of a football masterclass against Liverpool that confirmed his superstar status. It’s a shame for Manchester United for not pushing to sign him more vigorously than they did.

Jack decided to remain at the club where he is properly valued and as a result, he seems set to deliver his best season to date. Next season should be interesting for all the clubs that will try to sign this incredible playmaker.

3.- Ousmane Dembele to Manchester United.

Where do we start with this disaster between Barcelona and Manchester United? Both clubs were willing to sign players but Ousmane Dembele was right in the middle of this negotiation. Initially, the Catalan club was only listening to purchase offers for the French player.

However, they suddenly starting entertaining the idea of a loan but it was too late. Manchester United never wanted to buy the player due to his injury-prone past and the deal fell apart during the final hours of deadline day.

2.- Memphis Depay to FC Barcelona.

Although Koeman publicly accepted that he wanted Memphis Depay as his start transfer this season, Barcelona simply didn’t come through. Lyon president, Jean-Michel Aulas refused to lower the price for the player and the Catalan club was forced to sell Dembele in order to buy him.

This left both sides with no choice. Despite having an agreement on personal terms, Memphis will remain in Lyon for one more season after the deal fell apart.

1.- Jadon Sancho to Manchester United.

In what is arguably one of the most embarrassing transfer windows in Manchester United’s history, they failed to meet Jadon Sancho’s price several times. The English forward wasn’t able to convince Borussia Dortmund to lower their €120 asking price despite the ongoing pandemic.

United was keen on paying that money before the crisis but they refused to do it after everything went down. Sancho wasn’t able to fulfill his dream this season and he will have to wait one more year to do it.
