Manchester United have joined the race for the signing of Victor Osimhen from Napoli.

Since leaving Lille in September 2020, Victor Osimhen has developed into one of the best Serie A strikers at Napoli. The Nigerian star’s performances have attracted interest from some of the biggest clubs across Europe.

Until now, Arsenal and Newcastle had shown interest in signing the Super Eagles striker. However, they now have a new rival in their pursuit of the 23-year-old’s signature.

According to Area Napoli, Manchester United are considering a summer move for the former Lille star. The Italian outlet, however, claims the Magpies are still the favourites to sign him.

United are also among the clubs that are actively competing in the transfer race for Erling Haaland. However, the fierce competition around the transfer of the Norwegian striker might push United toward alternative options.

Osimhen’s current contract at Diego Armando Maradona Stadium runs until 2025. Napoli will be under no pressure to sell their star striker next summer, which means United would have to pay a considerable fee to sign him.

The Nigeria star started his side’s Europa League game against Barcelona in the Europa League playoffs. However, he was not able to prevent the Catalans from beating the Partenopei 4-2.

Osimhen and co will be back in action on Sunday when they will face Lazio in Serie A. Luciano Spalletti’s side will have a chance to leapfrog Milan from the top of the table if they manage to beat their Roman rivals.
