As they fulfill their international duties, Thiago Alcantara wanted to address all the slander about Sergio Busquets in recent years.

Although Sergio Busquets hasn’t been the same during the last five years, Thiago Alcantara is having none of the slanders against him. The Liverpool midfielder traveled to Spain in order to represent his national team over the next two weeks. They face Greece, Georgia, and Kosovo over the next three weeks in the first round of the UEFA World Cup qualifiers. Busquets has been called up to represent his country again despite the evident dip in form from the last five years.

Luis Enrique’s reason behind this is very simple: Busquets’ recovery work in midfield is unparallelled. All the slander he’s been getting recently is something that Thiago Alcantara fails to understand. Throughout his entire career, Sergio has been defended by his teammates and managers. Players in his position tend to get overlooked because their work is not as flashy as a more offensive player.

Alcantara thinks there is no debate with Busquets.

In Thiago Alcantara’s mind, Sergio Busquets is still a must-have player for any squad due to his unique skills. In simple matters, every time FC Barcelona or Spain didn’t perform it was due to Busquets. He either wasn’t at his top level or he wasn’t on the pitch. But recent performances earned him another call-up from Luis Enrique and Thiago is thrilled about it.

When he was asked about all the slander about Sergio, this is what Sport reported: “You always open the debate and for me there is none,” said Thiago. “I always say it, with time you watch football and become more analytical. While Busquets is at Barca, Barca will always work. He’s a great professional, you see him training and you learn from him. I’m nobody to cast doubts, only to congratulate him and keep taking advantage of when we are together.”
