Neymar sustained an ankle injury following a tough challenge from fellow Brazilian Thiago Mendes.
After Neymar was stretched off the field in clear agony, there were concerns the PSG player could’ve picked up a serious injury at Parc des Princes. However, both player and manager Thomas Tuchel have confirmed the scans didn’t show any serious injuries. Neymar sprained his ankle and may be able to return against Lille next Sunday.
Nevertheless, it has been a tough 48 hours for Thiago Mendes. Although it doesn’t seem like the player meant to cause Neymar any harm, he was rightfully given a red card for the tackle with VAR’s assistance. Mendes released a video on social media apologizing for what happened, claiming he’s a fan of the Brazilian star and would never intentionally harm him.
However, the apology wasn’t enough for the Parisian number 10’s fans. Kelly Mendes, Thiago’s wife, told french CNEWS that she received a flood of threatening messages and calls. Kelly even shared one of the most disturbing ones, which caused her to take legal action.
“For your boyfriend’s actions, if anything happens to Neymar, you will pay with your life. You and your family, one by one.”
In the aftermath of such horrific threats, the mother of two young children decided to turn in all evidence to the police. Moreover, Olympique Lyonnais assured the club will take action to protect Thiago Mendes and his family.
