Thiago Alcantara has bid an emotional farewell to Bayern Munich fans ahead of his imminent switch to Liverpool.

Thiago says he had to take one of the most difficult decisions of his career in deciding to join Liverpool.

Entering the final year on his Bayern contract, the Bundesliga giants had to make a decision on the player’s future this summer. Either cash in on him now or lose him for free next summer.

Bayern had hoped they would be able to convince Thiago to stay put and possibly sign an extension. But the player was in search of a new challenge.

His new adventure is set to begin with the reigning Premier League champions with Jurgen Klopp a fan of the player.

Thiago is expected to join the Reds in a deal worth £20m after a fee for his sale was agreed yesterday.

The 29-year-old has now bid an emotional farewell to the Bayern supporters after seven years at the club.

“Yes, I have made the most difficult decision of my sports career.” Thiago posted on his Twitter account.

“I will close this chapter in this wonderful club where I have grown as a player for seven years.”

“Triumphs, joy, and also hard times. But what I am most proud of is that I arrived in Munich as a young man full of dreams and now I will leave completely fulfilled with a club, a history, and a culture.”

“Here I learned to love a tradition that I am now saying goodbye to but which I will never forget: Mia San Mia.”

“I have experienced fantastic moments: In this city, in Sabener Strasse, and in our beloved Allianz Arena. With my Bavarian family, who treated me so well and loved me every second.”

“My decision is purely of a sporting nature. As a soccer player, I want new challenges to develop myself further.”

“Bavaria will always be my home. Thank you, FC Bayern.”

Robert Lewandowski paid his tribute to Thiago, saying on Twitter: “It was a pleasure to play with such a magician like you.”

In his seven year spell in Germany, Thiago scored 35 goals in 235 total appearances for Bayern.

He claimed 16 trophies in total, including seven Bundesliga titles, the Champions League and Club World Cup.
