But the Athletic claim Liverpool have now agreed to a fee in the region of £27m with the Bundesliga champions.
Talks between the clubs were at a standstill and Liverpool were reportedly preparing to return to the table in the final week of the transfer window.
But negotiations accelerated on Monday after Bayern told Liverpool they wanted any transfer for Thiago to be finalized before the start of the Bundesliga season.
Bayern kick off their season against Schalke on Friday and Liverpool will now move to agree personal terms with the Spanish midfielder.
The Reds are expecting no issues with Thiago’s wage demands and the deal will be a massive boost for the reigning Premier League champions.
The 29-year-old was a key figure in Bayern’s Champions League-winning run and he is expected to feature well under Klopp at Liverpool.
