It’s time we set the record straight about Neymar’s explosive statements about Lionel Messi on Wednesday evening after PSG’s match.

Neymar and Lionel Messi have an unbreakable bond they formed during the Brazilian’s time at FC Barcelona. Together, they conquered a treble alongside Andres Iniesta, Xavi Hernandez, and Luis Suarez. When the forward left to play for PSG, Leo’s heart broke because the club wasn’t able to keep one of his best friends in the club.

Unbeknownst to him, the FC Barcelona board of directors was driving the club to bankruptcy. That’s one of the main reasons they accepted those €222 million for Neymar but they quickly spent them to buy Coutinho and Dembele. For Messi, Neymar was the chosen one who would take his baton into a new era at FC Barcelona.

He felt he could retire happy whilst knowing there was a player who had the talent to replace him in the future. After Neymar’s departure, those hopes completely fell apart but a desire to play together again remained. Messi’s attempts to convince the board to bring the Brazilian back to Barcelona are public knowledge.

Neymar returns the favor to Messi.

After Neymar’s statements last night, Barcelona fans initially believed he was making a plea to possibly return to the Catalan club. However, the plans are exactly the opposite. ESPN journalist Christian Martin has first-hand knowledge about Lionel Messi’s future and he was on a mission in Manchester last night.

His plan was to get a statement from Neymar and other PSG players to drop some bombs about Leo. There’s a collective effort from the whole club to lure the Argentine to the French capital. Neymar wasn’t the only one who spoke about Messi playing at PSG, Leandro Paredes also spoke about the possibility.

If you thought Leo is trying to convince the new board to bring Neymar, think again. The Catalan club simply doesn’t have the money to keep paying Messi, let alone signing Neymar again. If those two are determined to play together next season as the Brazilian said they were. It is clear they will get back on the pitch at a different club, not in Barcelona.
