After Alan Shearer and Thierry Henry were inducted, a third Premier League legend has entered the Hall of Fame.

Former Manchester United forward Eric Cantona has become the latest inductee for the Premier League Hall of Fame.

The Frenchman is the first of six candidates to be inducted into the Hall of Fame from a 23-man shortlist after fans voted for him.

Cantona, who scored 70 goals in 156 Premier League games with United, won the league title with Red Devils on four occasions before retiring from the game in May 1997.

His induction comes three weeks after Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer and Arsenal’s all-time record scorer Thierry Henry became the first two players to be part of the Hall of Fame.

The honor is available for retired footballers who had exceptional success and made vital contributions in the Premier League since it was founded in 1992.

“I am very happy and very proud and at the same time, I am not surprised!” said Cantona on the league’s website.

“Of course, to play in England was a dream. It is a dream of everybody to play in the Premier League.

“I have been lucky to play in this [Manchester United] team with wonderful players, a wonderful manager and wonderful fans.”

The 54-year-old added: “It was the football I dreamt about because Manchester United is a club where they want to win things but in a good way.

“It was like this in the time of Matt Busby. This is the identity of this club, the philosophy of this club.”

The Premier League will announce the other five inductees later this week.
