Hansi Flick admits to being in contact with Mario Gotze but denies working on bringing the player back to Bayern Munich.
Bayern Munich lost two midfielders in Thiago Alcantara and Javi Martinez this summer, and the club is said to be on the lookout for a new player in that position.
Reports in Germany emerged recently that the Bavarians identify Mario Gotze as one of their targets.
It was reported by Sport Bild that Hansi Flick was keen on having Gotze in his ranks at Allianz Arena, having witnessed the player’s talents first hand during his time working as an assistant to Joachim Low for the German national team.
Gotze left Borussia Dortmund at the end of the last season after refusing to sign a contract extension and is currently a free agent.
Speaking ahead of the Super Cup clash with Sevilla, Flick, however, has denied Bayern’s transfer interest in the 28-year old.
“I have had frequent contact with him since my time with the national team,” the manager said, via Bulinews.
“I have high regard for Mario and know where his strengths lie. But that’s not an option for us at the moment.”
