The injury-prone forward is back in training amid Manchester United’s reported attempts to sign a new striker in this summer’s transfer window.
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag wants Anthony Martial to stay at Old Trafford this summer.
Injuries have plagued Martial over the past year, and with the club on the lookout for a new striker, it has been suggested the Frenchman’s days at Old Trafford are numbered.
But Ten Hag has now put these claims to rest. He is hopeful the forward will make a full recovery and be a valuable asset to the team.
“We need a good squad and Anthony Martial is a brilliant football player and so he will help us,” Ten Hag said at a press conference in San Diego on Monday.
“He scored goals and also in other areas of football like pressing, in possession, [and] combinations.”
Martial missed much last season with various injury problems. The 27-year-old made 29 appearances in all competitions, scoring nine goals and making three assists.
However, Martial is now back in first-team training and could feature in Wednesday’s pre-season clash with Real Madrid in Houston, Texas.
The friendly comes less than 24 hours after the academy team lost 3-1 to Wrexham in San Diego.
