Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been left out of the Arsenal starting XI against Tottenham. Mikel Arteta explains why he made that decision.

In what was a rather surprising decision, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was dropped to the Arsenal bench for their north London derby clash with Tottenham.

Alexandre Lacazette was picked to start ahead of the in-form Arsenal captain. Prior to this game, the Gabonese forward had scored six goals in his last seven games.

However, Mikel Arteta has now confirmed that a ‘disciplinary’ issue will see Aubameyang miss out on the starting lineup.

“He (Aubameyang) was going to start the game, we had a disciplinary issue. We have drawn the line and we move on. He’s on the bench,” Arteta said as per The Independent.

Asked if he would explain what Aubameyang had done, Arteta said: “No. Obviously we keep that internally. We have a process that we have to respect for every game and that’s it.”

The decision puts a dent in Arsenal’s hopes as they hope to avoid a double league defeat to Tottenham for the first time in Premier League history.

Aubameyang has been in decent form so far this season, scoring 14 goals in 29 appearances across all competitions this season.
