The Uruguayan marksman suggests his former partner in crime not hanging his boots at Camp Nou could very well be on the cards.

Lionel Messi can “retire wherever he wants”, says Luis Suarez as he stresses the fact that the FC Barcelona captain has the right to dictate his own future.

Messi’s contract with Barcelona is due to expire at the end of the season, and his future has been a subject of intense speculations lately

The Argentine earlier expressed a desire to play in the MLS while he also hinted at a possible reunion with Newell’s Old Boys in the past. And with him being free to discuss a potential transfer with other clubs, all those options are being weighed up in the form of rumors.

The 33-year-old saw one of his closest companion on and off the pitch in Suarez depart from the club in a rather displeasing manner last summer. Their relationship, though, remains intact.

“This afternoon I spoke with him, he was very happy about the victory [over Granada],” the Atletico Madrid striker told El Transistor. “He is [playing] at a spectacular level, he is the best in the world.

“Messi will retire wherever he wants, he can decide whether it’s at Barcelona, in Argentina, or wherever.”
