The prolific Uruguayan is happy to be at Wanda Metropolitano but insists he was disappointed by the manner of his Camp Nou exit.

Luis Suarez joined Atletico Madrid in a free transfer over the summer after being deemed surplus to requirements at FC Barcelona.

The 33-year-old forward’s sale was one of several changes made by the Catalan giants, including sacking Quique Setien and appointing Ronald Koeman, on the back of a trophyless 2019/20 season.

Barca’s decision to sell the club’s third-best goalscorer in their history has been questioned by the fans, especially now at a time when the team appears thin on the attacking front.

Suarez has settled well in his new surroundings as he is joint second in La Liga scoring charts with five goals in six games so far this campaign.

He is now set to come face to face against his former teammates when Atletico take on Barcelona on Saturday.

“I was sad and hurt by the way I left – I already said it,” Suarez confessed about his Barca exit in an interview with Marca.

“But when they close a door, five more open to you where they value my work, professionalism, and trajectory. I feel proud. Where they did not want me, there was another that wanted me. I found happiness and I’m enjoying this moment now.”
