Lyon forward Memphis Depay has refused to put an end to links to Barcelona after a move failed to materialize over the summer transfer window.

The Netherlands international was set to join his former national boss, Ronald Koeman, at Barcelona after the La Liga giants sought a replacement for Luis Suarez during a troubled summer of an upheaval of the first-team squad.

With his contract set to expire in June, the 26-year-old stated of a possible January move; “I don’t know about Barcelona. The transfer market is not open. My mind isn’t on that,” Depay said in a post-match interview on Wednesday night as quoted by Marca.

“I am trying to give my best, to play well in order to become a better player. There is a lot of speculation out there.”

The Dutchman did admit that he is attracted by the lure of playing for one of Europe’s heavyweight sides.

“Who wouldn’t like to play there? They are one of the best teams in the world. Everyone would like to play there, but I’m not thinking about that.”

Depay has continued his decent form from the last term and has scored five goals and recorded three assists in 10 Ligue 1 games for Lyon so far in 2020/21.
