The Aston Villa boss says his side will ‘give everything’ to defeat the Reds.

Aston Villa are showing significant signs of improvement under their new manager Steven Gerrard. The Liverpool legend has won three of his four games in charge of the Villa, losing only to Manchester City.

Villa defeated Leicester City with a 2-1 result on Sunday as they climbed up to 10th place on the table. The Reds will take on Liverpool on Saturday as Gerrard returns to Anfield.

Having made 710 game appearances for the Merseyside club, the Villa boss is, of course, a big Liverpool fan. However, the 41-year-old says he will send his team to Anfield to beat Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Asked whether he has any sentimental thoughts about his Anfield return, Gerrard responded (via Sky Sports): “None, none at all.

“I just want to go there and try to win and take what we can. For us, we’re not competing with Liverpool, in terms of the level we’re both at, at the moment, but we’ll certainly go there and give it everything we’ve got.

“We took (Manchester) City to the wire and I believe we should have taken something out of the game with our second-half performance.

“So we go there with confidence and belief, with three wins out of four, and we’ll try and make it as difficult as we can.”

Villa have bounced back from a 2-1 defeat against Manchester City last week. After the Liverpool game, the West Midlands side will face Norwich in their next league game on December 14.
