Aston Villa are keen to sign Liverpool defender Joe Gomez on a loan deal this winter.

Steven Gerrard prepares to spend his first transfer window in charge of Aston Villa. He is reportedly keen to bolster his side’s backline in the January window, generating speculations around the potential targets.

According to Mirror, Joe Gomez has emerged as a transfer target for the Villa. Gerrard’s side are reportedly keen to sign the 24-year-old on a loan deal this January.

Gomez has slipped way down the pecking order at Anfield. Despite his great performances last season, Gomez continues to struggle for game time in the current campaign.

The centre-back has played only 12 minutes in the Premier League this season. A loan deal could provide Gomez with more playing time opportunities.

However, Jurgen Klopp is unlikely to risk facing the same scenario of the last season. Having Gomez at their disposal, Liverpool enjoy great depth in their backline. The Reds might consider signing a replacement immediately after loaning out Gomez.

The Reds are reportedly eying a move for Barcelona’s Ronald Araujo. However, signing the Uruguayan defender will not be easy for Liverpool.

The 22-year-old has established himself as a key player at Barca, attracting interest from several clubs. The Catalans themselves are trying to tie Arau down to a new contract. However, if Liverpool start a bidding war for the player this winter, Barca might be tempted to sell him.
