Reports suggest that AC Milan and Real Madrid are the latest to join the race for one of Liverpool’s main targets. The youngster is being monitored by several top-league clubs.
It seems like Liverpool can’t catch a break in the transfer market. After receiving a huge blow on their pursuit of Ajax’s defender Perr Schuurs, they may be on the verge of being turned down once again.
18-year-old left-back Nuno Mendes has been stellar for Sporting Lisbon this season. His performances have secured him a regular place in the first-team as the Premier League clubs keep a close eye on the Lions’ new wonderkid.
In the last month, Mendes has been linked with the likes of Liverpool, Manchester United, Leicester, Arsenal, and Newcastle. The sudden interest caused alarm-bells to ring at Sporting Lisbon. When the youngster made his first-team debut six months ago, he signed a contract with a €45 million release clause. However, as the left-back reportedly refused to increase the clause to €100 million, a winter move is looking more and more likely.
According to The Sun, Real Madrid are front-runners to sign the young starlet. Nevertheless, the Merengues already have Ferland Mendy and Marcelo as strong opponents for the Portuguese. Therefore, he may think twice before making such a move.
On the other hand, Portuguese news outlet A Bola claims AC Milan has a strong interest in Mendes. The Italian club believes the 18-year-old is the right candidate to fight for a spot in the first-team alongside Theo Hernandez. However, the newspaper also suggests that the transfer may fail due to financial differences.
Manchester United advised to sign the Sporting youngster
The Red Devils recently signed Alex Telles from Porto. Nonetheless, The Sun believes that Nani alerted Man Utd to one of the hottest young talents of the moment. If Manchester United decides to make a move, they’ll likely have an advantage over other Premier League clubs.
Nuno Mendes’s agent is none other than Miguel Pinho, whose client list includes United’s Bruno Fernandes. The midfielder is arguably one of the Red Devils’ best signings over the last few years. With such a positive past experience, the English team may be keen on doing business with Pinho and Sporting again.
