In the wake of Liverpool’s injury crisis, the Reds have reportedly been looking into possible signings to broaden their defensive options. After their Champions League win over Ajax, one particular player decided to address the speculation.

Liverpool’s injury list seems to just keep on growing. After the long-term losses of Van Dijk and Joe Gomez, the Premier League champions were urged to search for solutions in the January transfer market.

Last week, the Reds were rumored to have found a replacement for Van Dijk in another promising Dutch center-back. The chosen one was Perr Schuurs, who has been a regular for Ajax this season. The 21-year-old fullback has helped them secure six clean sheets.

The young defender positively featured in last night’s match at Anfield, despite Ajax’s loss.

After the Champions League clash, Schuurs decided it was time to clarify the transfer speculation linking him to Liverpool.

“I have heard and read the stories as well. But this is just my first season as a first-team regular for Ajax. I still want to play a couple more seasons for them to help them win trophies. So I am not that concerned about the rumors,” he told Ziggo Sports.

According to the Mirror, the transfer fee asked by the Amsterdam club circled around €30 million. Despite being a considerate investment for the Reds, Schuurs’s latest performances seem to justify the amount.

As the Dutch center-back seems reluctant to leave Ajax in the near future, Liverpool must find a new solution to tackle their injury crisis.
