Harry Maguire was found guilty of assault charges and subsequently been dropped from England squad by Gareth Southgate.

Harry Maguire got in an altercation with Greek police while holidaying in Mykonos. The Manchester United defender pled ‘not guilty’ to charges of aggravated assault, resisting arrest, and repeated attempts at bribery.

In light of his side of the story, Gareth Southgate included him in England’s squad which will face Iceland and Denmark. However, the manager shared that he will revisit his decision in light of new information.

The circumstances have changed since Southgate’s comments. Maguire was found guilty of all the charges levied at him and his entourage.

Consequently, Southgate has swiftly moved to ax the defender from his squad.

“In light of this evening’s developments, I can confirm I have withdrawn Harry Maguire from the England squad for the matches against Iceland and Denmark,” Daily Mail quoted Southgate.

‘As I said earlier today, I reserved the right to review the situation.

“Having spoken to Manchester United and the player, I have made the decision in the best interests of all parties and with consideration of the impact on our preparations for the next week.”

Despite the allegations being proven against him, Maguire has maintained his innocent stance.

However, as details emerge, they increasingly put him in a bad light. The defender allegedly boasted about his star status and also tried to bribe the officials.
