Premier League drama at Saint Mary’s!

Tottenham came into the match on the back of their convincing 3-0 win over Crystal Palace. However, it was evident from the beginning that they could not expect an easy game.

Having beaten West Ham 3-2 in their last match, Southampton started the game with confidence. The Saints scored the opener through James Ward-Prowse in the 25th minute.

Following the goal, Tottenham immediately started their efforts to get the equalizer. A swift run behinds Southampton’s defence by Son Heung-Min changed the dynamic of the game. The South Korean star ran behind Mohammed Salisu, who took him down as soon as he finished his dribble. Salisu received his second yellow card, while the referee awarded Tottenham a penalty.

Harry Kane converted the penalty by blasting the ball into the top-left corner of the net. Tottenham intensified their attacks in the second half and soon put another one behind Saints’ goalkeeper. However, upon reviewing by VAR, the referee disallowed Kane’s second goal.

Conte’s side continued their attacks nevertheless. The Spurs were close to scoring the match-winner several times, but the Saints managed to prevent them every time. The game ended in a 1-1 draw eventually as Southampton clinched an important point at home.

Tottenham slipped to sixth place on the table after the draw. Next up for the Spurs is a match against Watford on Saturday.

On the other hand, Southampton remained tenth in the league. The Saints will face Newcastle in a league game on Sunday.
