Manchester City finally dropped points in the title race as Southampton ended their incredible winning streak.

Southampton held Manchester City to a 1-1 draw in their Premier League game on Saturday. The Citizens could not continue their 12-match winning run in the Premier League while Southampton delivered an impressive defensive performance.

How to stop Man City: The Saints edition

Manchester City started the game as usual. The Citizens quickly dominated the possession while testing their opponents’ reaction to their attacking moves.

However, it did not take too long for the hosts to surprise them with a seventh-minute opener. Following an assist from Nathan Redmond, Kyle Walker-Peters scored his first-ever Premier League goal by smashing a stunning strike past Henderson.

The Citizens immediately started their efforts to get the equalizer. However, it took them almost an hour to finally put one behind Fraser Forster. A searching free-kick from Kevin De Bruyne found Aymeric Laporte, who headed the ball in from the far post as soon as he received it.

The Citizens pushed hard to get the match-winner during the final 20 minutes. However, unable to get past the Saints’ well-organized defence, they settled for a 1-1 draw.

City dropped points for the first time in their last 12 league games. It is still too soon to say Liverpool and Chelsea have a decent chance to make a comeback in the title race. However, while being 12 points clear of their closest rivals, the Citizens must not get used to dropping points.

After the international break, Pep Guardiola’s side will return to FA Cup action with a match against Fulham on February 5. In another FA Cup fixture, Southampton will host Coventry on the same day.
