A ruling was finalized this week in South Korea against a promoter who failed to fulfill his promise of a Cristiano Ronaldo show in 2019.

Cristiano Ronaldo is causing problems without even knowing about it in South Korea. Juventus agreed to play a friendly match against the K-League’s all-star team back in 2019 at Seoul’s World Cup Stadium in front of 65,000 fans. The problem is that the promoter advertised the match with Ronaldo’s image and sold tickets promising he would play this game.

Known as ‘The Fasta’, this promoter was sued by 162 unhappy fans who alleged “emotional distress” after failing to watch the star play this match. During this promotional tour Juventus was doing during the summer of 2019, the squad arrived late to the game and delayed the match one hour. With an impatient horde of supporters who were waiting for Cristiano to play. Many of them were left unhappy after paying between 30,000 to 400,000 won per ticket.

Cut to today after the court analyzed the whole case. They decided to make the promoter pay back half the ticket of every fan who sued them. In addition to this fine, ‘The Fasta’ has to pay another 50,000 won for the distress this situation caused.

“The defendant has contractual obligations of Ronaldo playing in the game barring any unforeseen circumstances,” ruled the court via Yonhap News Agency.

Social media impact on Ronaldo after this incident.

This incident was not great for Cristiano Ronaldo either as the supporters took their anger to social media. They coined the phrase “Acting like Ronaldo” when they refer to someone who doesn’t live up to his promises. Even the K-League demanded an apology from Juventus for all this drama but the Italian club decided to remain silent on the matter.

It’s safe to say that after this incident, Cristiano might not be as welcome as he was in South Korea for future visits to the country. A very unfortunate episode in which the fans were the most impacted by an irresponsible promoter. We can also blame Juventus’ poor logistic work during that promotional tour.
