It happened during Tottenham Hotspur’s victory against Leeds United, Son Heung-min reached an important milestone as a Spurs player.
Son Heung-min just reached a historic milestone as a Tottenham player with the goal he scored against Leeds United this evening. The South Korean forward has been nothing short of world-class over the last couple of years and he’s already an established star. English football fits him well as he’s grown inside Tottenham Hotspur. Today, he got to score his 100th goal as a Spurs player and he celebrated in his own special way.
Contrary to other players who sometimes brag about their own achievements, Son was pretty humble about it. The forward knows that his goals only happen when his teammates help him achieve them (unless you score that Puskas Award winner). In his statement after the match, we could clearly see a footballer who is proud of what he’s done tonight.
Son’s message to his teammates.
“It was a really difficult game,” he told the Spurs’ website. “We knew how they were doing, they’re doing an unbelievable job and working so hard. We were creating chances from the start of the game and yeah, to get the clean sheet, 3-0, to start the New Year, it’s fantastic. Obviously, I’m very happy and grateful and the team-mates that have supported me. It’s not coming automatically, on my own, I need a lot of help for this big achievement and I’m really proud.
“I didn’t know that. To score 100 goals with one team, it’s big and I’m really proud and grateful. It’s a good thing to start the New Year. We’re working hard and working through a long time, six years together, and we know each other really well. I’m a bit sad that I couldn’t give an assist today to H. Harry always finds me so for my goal, he knew I was there. Obviously the ball was perfect to me. Sometimes it’s telepathic, sometimes we’re talking about it.
“I really don’t mind. When we get the three points, it doesn’t matter who scores or gets the assists. We’re working hard every single time to get three points. It was very important because we dropped points and sometimes we were a bit unlucky. I think we’ve started the New Year well, back to winning ways, it’s very important.”
