The Spurs skipper reserved special praise for one of Newcastle United’s players after Sunday’s 4-1 mauling in north London.
Tottenham captain Son Heung-min praised Newcastle defender Kieran Trippier after Spurs won 4-1.
In Sunday’s Premier League game, Son played on the left wing, pitting him against former Spurs teammate Trippier. The South Korean went on to score a penalty and supply two assists. His efforts helped Spurs end a five-game winless run, keeping the club in fifth place in the standings.
“Tripps is one of my closest friends,” Son said of Trippier on Sky Sports.
“We had a fantastic time here, but when you play against each other there is no friends.
“I tried to beat him in the game. He’s an amazing, amazing defender and it was a hard time for me.”
Son has now produced 10 goals and four assists for Tottenham in 16 league games this season.
The 31-year-old attacker will now prepare for Friday’s trip to Nottingham Forest in another Premier League fixture.
