The Red Devils started the new league campaign at home assertively but hit a roadblock in the away fixture on matchday 2.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer demands Manchester United to be more “ruthless in the box” ahead of their Premier League meeting with Wolves on Sunday.
Manchester United overpowered Leeds United in their Premier League opener, beating their rivals 5-1 in front of the returning fans at Old Trafford.
It was considered a statement victory from United, with many deeming them strong title contenders alongside Manchester City, Chelsea, and Liverpool.
However, the Red Devils stumbled in only their next outing as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Southampton.
“Of course we took the lead against Leeds, they scored, we scored then we got the momentum and we scored a couple quickly and we were clinical,” said Solskjaer during his pre-match press conference ahead of the trip to Wolves.
“That was the difference against Southampton, we weren’t clinical, we didn’t take our chances. We had as many, or even more, chances.
“If you’re not ruthless in the box, you won’t win points in the Premier League. I looked at it and we had a good 10-15 minutes after we scored and we should have scored more. In the last 15 minutes, we lost our way.
“Stick to your structure, believe in ourselves, believe in what we’re doing, believe in your teammates and keep sticking to what you’re good.”
