The Red Devils extend their unbeaten away run to 27 league games, although they return from St. Mary’s with an undesirable result.
A share of spoils was witnessed in Sunday’s fixture at St. Mary’s Stadium as Manchester United were held to a 1-1 draw by Southampton.
Manchester United were relentless in Premier League matchday 1, but the two changes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made to his team that started in the 5-1 thrashing of Leeds United didn’t pay off.
Fred got on the scoresheet just as he did in the previous match – only this time he put the ball in the wrong net. A Che Adams shot took a huge deflection off Fred and rolled past a helpless David de Gea and into the back of the net.
It was Mason Greenwood who saved his side’s blushes. Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba played a quick one-two and the latter flicked the ball to the teenage forward, who then drove a left-footed shot home from close range to level the scoreline.
At the end of the day, it was a deserved result for both sides as Man United were rather unconvincing and disorganized for the better part of the match while Southampton showed great intensity.
